This renowned book gifting program, founded by the legendary country singer Dolly Parton, is making waves across communities, promoting the importance of reading and empowering families to grow together through the magic of storytelling.
The Imagination Library, currently serving Sangamon and Menard Counties, provides free books to children aged 0-5, delivering age-appropriate titles directly to their homes. The aim is simple but profound: to instill a love for reading from an early age and create a solid foundation for future learning and development.
Cultivating Lifelong Readers
Early childhood literacy is crucial in shaping a child's cognitive abilities and future success. Numerous studies have shown that exposure to books and reading during early years significantly enhances language skills, cognitive development, and overall academic achievement. Local Support Through United Way

The United Way has partnered with the program, offering a platform for local donations. Earlier this year, the State of Illinois announced it's budget will include paying for 50% of the cost of every child signed up for Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Illinois. The state funding could be affected by future budgets, but for now we are excited about the growth this funding provides to the program. It will double the impact of every gift allowing us to expand the program.
Our local program has also received a $20,000 grant from the United Way Communityworks Fund at the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln. Both of these exciting announcements mean we will be able to deliver books into the hands of many more local children.
